Zilico recently exhibited with its Greek partner Maz Medical in Ioannina, at the Annual Congress on Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. The exhibition was run in conjunction with the European Federation for Colposcopy with the theme of ‘Problem Based Learning’ and a focus on enhancing knowledge in the pathology of the lower genital tract.

The Scientific Programme, ran over four days, was delivered by members of the Scientific and Organizing Committees and covered a wide range of topics with many case studies presented to the audience.

Ms Deirdre Lyons, of The Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and a member of the EFC Scientific Committee, spoke of the need to improve colposcopy and presented ZedScan as an adjunctive diagnostic technology which could be used to support the Primary HPV screening pathway.

Also speaking positively about ZedScan was Dr Pierre Martin-Hirsch, Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist and Gynaecologist at Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.   A series of case studies were also presented to the audience by Greek clinicians showing how ZedScan supports clinicians in diagnosing cell changes.

Developed by Zilico Ltd, ZedScan is a portable, handheld device that uses the science of Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to accurately diagnose changes in a woman’s cervix.

The system is already being used in hospitals around the world and provides a more accurate diagnosis in real-time, which assists clinicians with improved patient management.

Using ZedScan as an adjunct to the existing colposcopy procedure helps clinicians to manage patients more effectively, and helps to avoid unnecessary biopsies, treatments and repeat follow-up appointments.

Cervical cancer is caused by the human papillomavirus infection and is the second most common cancer in women worldwide.
