Sheffield Medics Women's Football Club raise money for Jo's Trust

Throughout the 2017/2018 football season, Sheffield Medics Women's Football Club is taking part in a number of activities to raise money for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

The women’s football team, which is sponsored by Zilico, is kickstarting their fundraising efforts by running the Sheffield 10k this Sunday, 24th September.

Most of the women taking part have never run in an event like this before, but are excited and motivated for the challenge, especially for such a worthwhile cause.

Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities. It is their vision to make cervical cancer a thing of the past.

The charity’s mission is to see cervical cancer prevented and reduce the impact for everyone affected by cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer. They do this by providing the highest quality of information and support, and by campaigning for excellence in cervical cancer treatment and prevention.

Every year in the UK, around 3,000 women will be diagnosed with cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in women aged 35 and under. In 99.7% of cases, cervical cancers are caused by persistent infections with a virus called high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV).

Earlier this month Club Captain Rebekah Grassby, spoke to Zilico about their fundraising efforts and the importance of cervical screening. Watch the video here.

On behalf of all the Zilico team, we wish SMWFC all the best for Sunday. Click here to sponsor the team.
