Tuesday 23rd May 2017
Zilico’s Indian pilot study has been featured this month in Medical Device Asia magazine.
Patients across Mumbai are being recruited to take part in a study, which aims to increase early detection of cervical cancer and quickly enable treatment.
The study is funded by the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, and uses ZedScan™, to detect the development of pre-cancerous abnormalities of the cervix.
Caused by the human papillomavirus infection, cervical cancer is the leading cancer in Indian women and is the second most common cancer in women worldwide.
It is estimated that there are approximately 132,000 new cases diagnosed and 74,000 deaths annually in India, which accounts for nearly a third of the global cervical cancer deaths.
