Wednesday 14th October 2020

In May this year, Professor John Tidy of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Ms. Uma Krishnamoorthy of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust conducted a webinar, 'Bringing colposcopy back to a new normal and how to manage the challenges', to discuss the impact and potential adjustments cervical cancer services are facing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Topics included:

  • The impact of COVID-19 on cervical screening and colposcopy referrals and the challenges now faced
  • How the referral backlog can be managed and sustained to provide appropriate patient care and treatment
  • Preparing for a 'new normal' and considerations for managing within a primary HPV setting
  • How adjunct technology is able to support clinicians in managing the backlog

Following the event, the transcript was written up as an article by Ms Krishnamoorthy and subsequently published in the October edition of Clinical Services Journal.
