Zilico Medical Advisory Board Meeting 2019
Monday 23rd September 2019
Zilico’s medical advisory board (MAB) convened for their annual meeting this week at The Royal Society of Medicine, London.
Chairing the meeting was Professor John Tidy, Gynaecological Oncologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Past President BSCCP and Zilico clinical founder. A leading topic at the meeting was the expected challenges within colposcopy due to primary HPV testing and vaccination uptake and an expected increase in referrals due to high sensitivity of HPV testing but poor specificity. Adjunctive technology such as ZedScan can support clinicians with patient management and achieving parity of care within differing pathways is essential.
The Advisory Board are selected for their very specific knowledge and experience within their clinical areas and we heard pathway updates on the UK, Germany (Mr Gerd Böhmer) and US (Dr Michael Gold, Dr Warner K Huh) markets from the members, including challenges faced within colposcopy. On the question of the necessity for adjuncts within colposcopy, Dr Narendra Patel, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at The Whittington Hospital, London responded, ‘yes, colposcopy is so subjective that improved accuracy is needed.’
Further ambition and partnerships offer an exciting future with EIS based medical diagnosis using machine learning and data modelling techniques and a digital surgical tool development is in discussion with The Royal Marsden Hospital (Dr Asif Chaudry) building on our early parathyroid POC work.
Additional plans for electrical impedance spectroscopy will include vulval, vaginal, anal cancers with the Zilico MAB providing expert insights and collaborative opportunity in these areas of application.
