Four abstract posters on ZedScan at BSCCP 2021

At this year's BSCCP annual meeting, we were very proud to see four abstracts on ZedScan accepted as poster presentations.

Ms Sapna Shah and her clinical team from the Royal Free Hospital, London undertook a ZedScan evaluation at the Chase farm and Barnet Hospital sites to look at improving clinic capacity by reducing return visits due to the ability to detect high grade disease in patients at first visit with ZedScan. Two posters were submitted by Prof John Tidy, one with his clinical team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and one with our technical founder Prof Brian Brown. Both abstracts were from studies to investigate the impact of ZedScan in routine use within the Jessops Wing colposcopy unit and have been published in peer reviewed journals since being accepted.

The first was a prospective cohort study of persistent hrHPV-positive, cytology-negative women examined with ZedScan. It was found that HPV genotype, age and prevalence of CIN2+ affect colposcopic performance and the use of ZedScan within this cohort significantly improved detection of high-grade cervical disease.

The second study reports the results of a longitudinal service evaluation of patients who were negative at the initial (index) colposcopy but who, in some cases, were found to develop CIN2+ over the subsequent three years. The investigation also looked for any association between the index Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements and the subsequent development of disease.

Finally, early in 2020, a Clinical Working Group was formed to discuss the use of technology to harmonise treatment approaches in colposcopy in the face of the challenges of a changing environment (primary HPV screening). Ms Jenny Byrom of Birmingham Women's Hospital leads on the abstract poster of this discussion which can be downloaded here
